Liza Papazian

Liza Papazian, M.S., LCSW-R

Co-Founder | Co-Director | Long Island DBT Group

Liza Papazian is the co-founder and co-director of LI DBT Group, established in 2001. She chairs the Family Education and Support Program and works with adolescents, adults, high-conflict couples, and families. She also leads DBT skills training groups.

 Ms. Papazian earned her Master of Science degree from Long Island University and her Master of Social Work degree from Adelphi University. She is intensively trained in DBT by Behavioral Tech, LLC, and is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Additionally, she has extensive training in evidence-based modalities, including Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and attachment-based therapy.

Ms. Papazian is the former Director of Rape and Sexual Assault Services at the NCCADV (now The Safe Center LI) , where, in the late 1990s, she instituted DBT and EMDR therapy programs for survivors of incest and sexual assault. She is a recognized expert in the treatment of trauma and co-morbid disorders resulting from war, terrorist attacks, and domestic and sexual violence. Ms. Papazian also serves as a clinical consultant to various mental health agencies and clinicians. She is a frequent presenter on topics related to treating trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder, affect dysregulation disorders, and substance abuse.
