The program is designed to teach teenagers, young adults (who reside at home with parents) and their families to live a crisis free life and help them enhance their quality of life.
DBT Skills Training Group: This group is designed to teach participants skills of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. The group meets once a week and runs between 24-26 weeks. A skills training group combines teaching, discussion and a review of homework practice, in order to help develop and enhance the skills of youngsters and parents. Through non-judgmental stance, awareness and acceptance, emotion regulation and utilizing interpersonal effectiveness skills, group members begin to use effective strategies to problem-solve and optimize their life.
Individual Session: In addition to weekly group skills training, clients meet with their DBT therapist once a week for individual sessions. Individual sessions are designed to validate the client in the moment, and help the client target and analyze maladaptive and self destructive behaviors by utilizing the daily diary card as emotions, urges and maladaptive behaviors are measured. Therapist teaches the client problem solving strategies in order to stay away from impulsive, mood dependent behavior and expand a repertoire of wise mind decisions.
Phone “Coaching” and Consultation: This is an ancillary support to DBT clients who need help in sorting out skills to get them to problem solve a difficult situation effectively and avoid resorting to their maladaptive coping mechanisms.
Parent Support Group: Is also available for parents who are faced with fear, helplessness and caught in the see-saw of push/pull relationships. It is a teaching and support group for parents who are experiencing the challenges of living with a person with BPD.
